I paint the pause.

Because sometimes

beyond the nothingness of the pause,

there are worlds.

A Threshold State

A Pause - A Moment at the Threshold

Often, a pause reveals a choice.

One that becomes visible only because someone stayed still long enough for something to unfold.

Rarely do we realize the lingering effect of a pause in the moment we take it.

Like the ones we took, which now exist in a place inside us we don’t often visit.

Ones where we sat in dappled shade

under trees, on lazy afternoons

listening to leaves whispering,

feeling the warm earth under bare feet.

Ones where we lay awake at night

in silence, staring out at endless stars.

Countless worlds.

Endless possibilities.

We were so content to be amazingly tiny and inconsequential.

Familiar pauses.

And worlds that become visible...

When we pause long enough.
